Flouride Tip Burn

Flouride tip burn is one of the most common problems with interiorscape plants. Flouride in tap water will flow through the plant to the tip of the leaves where it will sit. This is evident on monocots with brown tips on the leaves. This is not harmfull to the growth of the plant but is detrimental to the appearance. Affected leaves can be pruned. Stopping the use of superphosphate fertilizers will help reduce damage as well.

Other foliar diseases

Other foliar diseases are not usually common in interiorscapes. Often they are the result of overwatering or plant crowding. They can be treated by removing the affected foliage or by chemicals. Before Chemicals are used it is very important to identify the disorder before treatment.

Root Rot

Root Rot is a very serious problem in interiorscapes. If the media in an interiorscape is not well drained enough or a plant is overwatered, water will sit in the growing media too long depriving the roots of oxygen. Lack of oxygen will promote the growth of organisms that decay plant roots. Decayed roots will then make it harder and harder for plants to take in water and nutrients. It is important to know which plants can use more water and those that cannot use as much.
